5 soldiers shot at Fort Stewart US Army base in Georgia

NEW YORK – The Fort Stewart Hunter Army Airfield said on Wednesday that 5 soldiers were shot as a gunman stormed US military base Fort Stewart in Georgia on Wednesday.

The gunman opened fire at the soldiers in the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team area, the base said in a social media post.

“Fort Stewart is currently on lockdown due to an active shooter situation in the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team area. The base was locked down at 11:04 a.m., and law enforcement was already at the scene,” the base said on Facebook.

The injured soldiers have been shifted to Winn Army Community Hospital for treatment and the shooter has been apprehended.

Casualties have also been reported, Fort Stewart Hunter Army Airfield said on Facebook.

FBI Atlanta’s Savannah office is coordinating with Army Criminal Investigation Division for any assistance that might be needed.

Trump has been briefed about the incident and White House is monitoring the situation.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said on X “The President has been briefed on the shooting at Fort Stewart in Georgia. The White House is monitoring the situation”.

Georgia Senator Raphael Warnock said he was heartbroken to see the news of the shooting.

“I’m heartbroken to see the news of an active shooter incident at Fort Stewart today. I’m monitoring the situation closely and join all of Georgia as we pray for the safety of our service members, staff, and their families,” Warnock said.
