Dr. Jitendra Singh, the Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances, and Pensions, is set to preside over the 33rd meeting of the Standing Committee of Voluntary Agencies (SCOVA) in New Delhi on February 22, 2024. Established in 1986 by the Department of Pension and Pensioners Welfare, SCOVA serves as a consultative body comprising Voluntary Agencies, particularly Pensioner Welfare Associations.

The primary objective of SCOVA is to provide Pensioner Welfare Associations with a platform to address issues related to pensioner welfare directly to the relevant Ministries/Departments through constructive discussions. With 15 non-official members representing Pensioner Welfare Associations and official members from various Ministries/Departments of the Government of India, SCOVA plays a crucial role in offering feedback on program implementation, deliberating on policy matters concerning pensioners, and fostering voluntary efforts to complement government initiatives.

Participating in the 33rd SCOVA meeting will be Pensioner Welfare Associations from states including Gujarat, Odisha, Maharashtra, New Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Jharkhand, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Karnataka, and Puducherry. Additionally, representatives from the Department of Personnel and Training (DOPT), Ministry of Railways, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Department of Telecom, Department of Expenditure, Central Pension Accounting Office (CPAO), Department of Financial Services, Controller General of Defence Accounts (CGDA), and State Bank of India will also be present to contribute to the deliberations.

The meeting aims to address critical policy issues affecting pensioners, assess program implementation, and foster collaboration between government agencies and voluntary organizations to enhance pensioner welfare initiatives across the country.
