3-Day Conference Commences at IGNCA on International Mother Language Day

New Delhi, 22nd Feb. On International Mother Language Day, a three-day conference commenced at the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) on February 21, 2024.
Organized jointly by IGNCA’s Cultural Treasury Division and UNESCO, New Delhi, the festival saw the presence of Mrs. Lili Pandey, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, as the chief guest in the panel discussion session.
In her address, she stated that the recently implemented National Education Policy has given significant importance to linguistic diversity.
Additionally, linguistic education is the cornerstone of quality education. Lili Pandey remarked that culture can attract your attention towards achieving your goals.
She further suggested that for the first time, global leaders have agreed on the significant contribution of culture to India’s future development. Keeping in mind the various dimensions of culture, we should strive to encourage culture.
She said that whatever cultural heritage we have inherited, if we can pass it on to our future generations, that is sustainable development. Besides, how can we reach our accumulated linguistic diversity to our future generations?
Expressing her views during the program, UNESCO’s Senior Gender Specialist in New Delhi, Dr. Huma Masood, said that UNESCO has played a significant role in promoting linguistic diversity.
Dr. Huma Masood also mentioned that UNESCO initiated the celebration of International Mother Language Day on February 21 with the aim of promoting linguistic diversity.
On the first day of International Mother Language Day, a documentary film created by IGNCA, “Decline in Dialects,” was also screened. This thought-provoking documentary sheds light on various aspects of disappearing languages, delving into their intricacies.
Prof. Ramesh Chandra Gaud, Department Head and Dean (Administration) of the Cultural Treasury Division, also welcomed and thanked all the guests and attendees during the program.
