VP recalls Operation Sindoor, cultural milestones and urges youth to take five pledges in 2026

New Delhi, 2nd Jan: The Vice-President of India on Thursday extended warm greetings to citizens in India and across the world on the occasion of New Year 2026, describing 2025 as a year of renewed confidence, collective resolve and national pride.
In his message, the Vice-President said that from safeguarding sovereignty and security to strengthening India’s global standing, the nation moved forward with unity of purpose and clarity of vision.
Recalling Operation Sindoor, he said the mission underlined India’s firm resolve to protect its citizens and sent a clear message to terrorists and their sponsors that justice and security would prevail.
He highlighted major legislative developments in Parliament, the commemoration of the 150th year of Vande Mataram, and landmark national observances including anniversaries of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, Birsa Munda Ji, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Ji, Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee Ji and Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ji.
Cultural and Civilisational Milestones
The Vice-President noted that the Dhwajarohan ceremony at the Ram Mandir, the grand Mahakumbh, and the inclusion of Diwali in UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list showcased India’s living heritage and civilisational values. He also referred to initiatives like Kashi Tamil Sangamam for strengthening cultural unity.
Achievements in Science and Sports
He highlighted India’s progress in space and science, including ISRO’s SPADEX satellite docking mission, the LVM 3-M6 heavy-lift launch, and Indian astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla’s mission to the International Space Station.
In sports, he lauded India’s triumphs including victories in the ICC Champions Trophy, the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, both men’s and women’s Kho Kho World Cup titles, and achievements by athletes like Divya Deshmukh and Sheetal Devi.
Five Pledges for 2026
Calling the youth custodians of India’s future, the Vice-President urged them to take five pledges in 2026 — to stay free from addiction, adopt technology responsibly, prioritise physical and mental health, uphold constitutional values and social harmony, and contribute selflessly to national progress.
He concluded by saying that guided by these values and inspired by youth energy, India will continue its determined march towards Viksit Bharat@2047, wishing citizens peace, prosperity and progress in the New Year.
