New Delhi, 14th Dec.
Fourteen opposition MPs from various parties were suspended from the Lok Sabha on Thursday for the remainder of the Winter Session. This action was taken due to their disruption of House proceedings.

During the session, the opposition demanded a statement from Home Minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding a security breach in the Lok Sabha. In response, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi moved two resolutions on separate occasions to suspend the MPs.

Prior to their suspension, the MPs gathered in the Well of the House and chanted slogans, demanding a statement from the government about the security breach that occurred on Wednesday.

During the question hour, the House was adjourned until 2 pm due to the uproar caused by the opposition.

At 2 pm, Joshi read a statement on behalf of the government, stating that the Speaker is responsible for the internal security of Parliament.

Amidst the chaos, Joshi moved a resolution to suspend five MPs, stating, “I move the following that this House having taken misconduct of T N Prathapan, Hibi Eden, Jothimani, Ramya Haridas, and Dean Kuriakose in utter disregard to the House and the authority of this Chair and having been named by the chair… to be suspended from the service of the House for the remainder of the session.”

The House was then adjourned until 3 pm.

When the House reconvened at 3 pm, Joshi moved a second resolution to suspend VK Sreekandan (Cong), Benny Behanan (Cong), Mohammad Jawed (Cong), PR Natarajan (CPI-M), Kanimozhi (DMK), K Subbarayan (CPI), SR Parthiban (DMK), S Venkatesan (CPI-M), and Manickam Tagore (Cong).

Later, it was claimed that Prathiban was named among the suspended MPs even though he was not present in Delhi and was in Chennai.

The House adjourned and will meet again on Friday. Some of the suspended members continued to protest in the House even after the adjournment, while others left after some time.

During the protests, opposition members in the Lok Sabha demanded a statement from the government regarding the security breach in Parliament.

Speaker Om Birla emphasized that the security of the Parliament complex is the responsibility of the Lok Sabha Secretariat.

The Winter Session of Parliament, which began on December 4, will conclude on December 22.
