110 Indian Students, Including 90 from J&K, Evacuated from Conflict-Hit Iran

New Delhi, 18th June: In a major evacuation effort amid escalating hostilities between Israel and Iran, at least 110 Indian students—including 90 from Jammu and Kashmir—are expected to arrive in Delhi by 10:15 PM tonight. The Union government facilitated their safe passage from conflict-hit Iran via Armenia and Doha.

Visuals from Doha airport showed the students boarding an IndiGo flight to India. The evacuation, coordinated by the Ministry of External Affairs, was widely welcomed by families and student groups back home.

The Jammu and Kashmir Students’ Association (JKSA) expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar for the prompt response. “We deeply appreciate this effort to ensure a smooth, full journey home,” the JKSA said in a statement, adding that all travel, including the Delhi to Srinagar leg, has been arranged free of cost.

The students, primarily from Urmia Medical University, had first crossed into Armenia before flying out to Doha, amid intense security concerns in Iran. The Indian Consulate in Bandar Abbas had earlier requested Ahvaz Jundishapur University of Medical Sciences (AJUMS) to allow the safe relocation of students, especially those from the Kashmir Valley.

Nasir Khuehami, JKSA’s national convenor, confirmed that 11 more Indian students were given clearance to leave the AJUMS campus, with assurances from the consulate that all safety protocols would be observed.

The evacuation comes amid worsening tensions in the region. Israel claimed on Wednesday that it had struck a nuclear site near Tehran. Iran, in response, launched hypersonic missiles, marking the sixth consecutive day of fire exchange.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei warned of “serious irreparable consequences” if the U.S. intervenes, while former U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Washington had no direct role but signaled his growing impatience.

The Indian government is closely monitoring the situation and is expected to continue evacuation operations as required.
