Baripada, 7th Aug: A shocking and shameful incident has come to light from the Mayurbhanj district of Odisha, where a 10-year-old girl was allegedly raped repeatedly over a period of a month. Police in the Khunta police station area have arrested three individuals in connection with the crime, including the victim’s brother-in-law.

The heinous crime was uncovered nearly a month and a half after it began, when the girl suddenly fell ill and was taken to Baripada PRM Medical College for treatment. It was there that she revealed her ordeal to her mother, who immediately filed three separate First Information Reports (FIRs) against the accused at the Khunta police station.

According to SDPO Hrishikesh Nayak, the three accused took turns preying on the minor girl at different times. The investigation revealed that the victim’s sister’s husband took her to his house under false pretenses and sexually assaulted her. The other two accused, a minor boy and another young man, also allegedly assaulted the girl on separate occasions.

Based on the complaints, three cases (FIR Nos. 257, 258, and 259) of rape have been registered. The minor accused has been detained and sent to a child protection home, while the two adult accused have been arrested and will be presented in court.
