New Delhi, 10th Nov: Eight people were killed and 30 others injured after a powerful explosion ripped through a car near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort (Lal Qila) Metro Station on Monday evening, triggering panic and chaos in the heart of the national capital. The car burst into flames, engulfing several nearby vehicles in the blaze.

Eyewitnesses reported that the impact of the blast was so intense that streetlights in the area went off immediately. “There was a loud explosion, followed by fire and thick smoke. Several vehicles caught fire one after another,” said a local vendor.

According to the Delhi Fire Department, a call regarding the explosion was received around 6:55 pm. Seven fire tenders and 15 CAT ambulances were promptly dispatched to the spot. The fire spread rapidly to nearby vehicles, gutting five to six cars before being brought under control.

Multiple casualties were rushed to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) Hospital, where several injured are undergoing treatment, according to sources.

Following the explosion, security agencies have placed the entire national capital on high alert. The incident comes just a day after authorities busted a major terror module, recovering nearly 2,900 kg of explosive material — raising fears of a possible link.

Sources said that senior officers, including the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell), are overseeing the investigation at the site. The area around Red Fort has been cordoned off, and forensic teams are collecting evidence.

Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to the Commissioner of Delhi Police, directing a thorough and time-bound probe into the incident.

Meanwhile, Mumbai Police have intensified patrolling and checks at sensitive locations as a precautionary measure. Other states, including Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and West Bengal, have also been placed on high alert amid intelligence coordination between state police and central agencies.

Authorities are yet to determine whether the blast was accidental or a deliberate act.
