Sipping While Murshidabad Burns? Yusuf Pathan’s Chai Post Ignites Backlash

Kolkata 13 April 2025 -While Tamil Nadu simmers, Murshidabad in West Bengal is already on the boil. Violent protests have erupted across the district over the contentious Waqf (Amendment) Act, with several areas like Suti, Dhuliya, and Samserganj seeing unrest and clashes.

In the midst of this chaos, Trinamool MP and former Indian cricketer Yusuf Pathan is facing the heat—not for a speech, but a cup of chai.

Pathan posted a serene Instagram update just days ago, showing himself enjoying a tranquil afternoon with a cup of tea. The caption read:
“Easy afternoons, good chai, and calm surroundings. Just soaking in the moment.”

But the timing couldn’t have been worse. Critics slammed the post as tone-deaf, given the district’s volatile state. Though Pathan’s constituency doesn’t directly cover the affected areas, their proximity—barely 80 kilometers away—has fueled public anger.

“People are dying in the same district and our MP is posting tea selfies?” one user fumed on X (formerly Twitter). Others accused him of being “missing in action” while his constituents grapple with fear and uncertainty.
