Xi Jinping Calls for Closer Ties with India, Proposes “Dragon-Elephant Tango”

Beijing: Chinese President Xi Jinping called for China and India to work more closely together, proposing that their relationship should take the form of a “Dragon-Elephant tango”—a dance between their emblematic animals.

This call came as the Chinese and Indian presidents exchanged congratulatory messages on Tuesday, marking the 75th anniversary of the start of their diplomatic ties. The exchange comes amid a period of easing tensions following a 2020 clash between their troops along the shared border in the Himalayas.

In his message, Xi emphasized the importance of finding ways for the two nations to coexist peacefully. He expressed his readiness to deepen communication and coordination on major international affairs and work together to safeguard peace in border areas.
