Imphal, 22nd Nov: RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on Friday asserted that Hindu society is indispensable to the survival of world civilisation, claiming that “without Hindus, the world will cease to exist.” Bhagwat made the remarks while addressing a gathering during his visit to Manipur, his first since ethnic violence shook the state last year.
Calling Hindu society “immortal”, Bhagwat said India had endured the rise and fall of ancient civilisations such as Greece, Egypt and Rome, suggesting that the strength of Hindu culture lies in its continuity and resilience. “There is something in our civilisation that we are still here,” he told the audience.
‘Bharat Is the Custodian of Dharma’
The RSS chief framed India as the torchbearer of dharma on the global stage.
“Bharat is the name of an immortal civilisation… If Hindu Dharma perishes, so will the world’s civilisations,” Bhagwat said, urging society to acknowledge its cultural responsibilities beyond national borders.
Reiterating a long-held RSS position on shared ancestry, Bhagwat added:
“Muslims and Christians in India share the same ancestral roots. No one is a non-Hindu in India.”
Emphasis on Self-Reliance and National Strength
Shifting focus to nation-building, Bhagwat stressed that India’s progress hinges on strength rooted in self-reliance — economically, militarily and intellectually.
“Strength means economic ability. Our economy must be completely self-reliant. We should not be dependent on anyone,” he said, echoing the government’s accelerating push for swadeshi and domestic production.
The comments come amid heightened trade tensions with the United States, intensified after the Trump administration imposed steep tariffs on Indian imports. Bhagwat suggested that such global pressures should reinforce, not weaken, the resolve for self-dependence.
‘RSS Runs on Guru Dakshina and Dedication’
Addressing rumours about financial structures within the organisation, Bhagwat said the RSS continues to operate on “guru dakshina and dedication,” not through institutional or political funding.
Context of Manipur Visit
Bhagwat’s remarks carry additional significance as they come during a visit to Manipur, a state that continues to recover from prolonged ethnic clashes. His speech emphasised unity and the need for cultural cohesion during a period of social sensitivity.
Despite political, religious and ideological differences across the country, Bhagwat argued that India’s strength lies in recognising shared roots and collective responsibility.
As Manipur awaits greater reconciliation and the nation debates identity and economic self-reliance, Bhagwat’s message is expected to reverberate across political and cultural circles — signalling the RSS’s continued influence in shaping the national discourse.
