New Delhi, 10th Sept. Union Home Minister Amit Shah emphasized the crucial role of cybersecurity in national security on Tuesday, highlighting its importance for the country’s progress.

Speaking at the foundation day celebrations of the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), Shah stated, “Cybersecurity is an integral part of national security. We must ensure cybersecurity as without it, the country’s progress is not possible.”

Shah underscored the global nature of cybercrime, noting that it transcends borders and necessitates a collective response from all stakeholders. “Cybercrime has no boundary, and hence it is imperative that all stakeholders come together to deal with the menace,” he said.

As part of the government’s strategy to combat cybercrime, Shah revealed plans to train and prepare 5,000 cyber commandos over the next five years. This initiative aims to bolster India’s capability to handle and mitigate cyber threats effectively.

During the event, Shah also inaugurated four new platforms under the I4C to enhance the country’s efforts in fighting cybercrime. The I4C, established in 2018 under the Ministry of Home Affairs, serves as a national-level coordination center addressing cybercrime issues. Its objectives include strengthening the capabilities of law enforcement agencies and improving coordination among various stakeholders involved in tackling cyber threats.

Shah noted that India is a significant player in the digital economy, with 46 percent of the world’s digital transactions occurring within the country. This underscores the importance of robust cybersecurity measures to protect the nation’s digital infrastructure and ensure continued progress.
