Kothur, 31st Oct. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi expressed confidence that his party will win the Gujarat assembly elections, claiming that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has only created a buzz in the state based on advertisements and has no ground support.
Gandhi told a press conference here that the state’s BJP-led government was facing a massive anti-incumbency campaign.
“Congress is contesting the Gujarat elections effectively. AAP is only in the air. It has nothing on the ground. Congress is a solid party in Gujarat,” in response to questions about his party’s prospects in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home state, he told reporters here.
“There is massive anti-incumbency. The media has created a buzz based on the advertisements given by AAP. Congress party is a solid party in Gujarat. The Congress party is going to win the election there,” he said.
Gandhi declined to comment on the Morbi tragedy where a bridge collapsed killing more than 130, saying he did not wish to politicise the incident.
The former Congress president also dismissed the possibility of a collaboration with the Telangana Rashtra Samithi.
“There is absolutely no possibility of any relationship between the TRS and the Congress,” he said.
Gandhi claimed that the TRS was the polar opposite of everything that the Congress stood for.
“The corruption, the approach, the attitude of TRS is not acceptable to us. We are diametrically opposite to what they are doing,” he said.
When asked about TRS founder K Chandrasekhar Rao’s decision to rename his party the Bharath Rashtra Samithi, Gandhi said the Telangana chief minister could imagine himself as the leader of a national or even international party.
