VP Dhankhar Felicitates Winners of National Painting Competition on Energy Conservation 2024

New Delhi, 14th Dec. Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar felicitated the winners of the National Painting Competition on Energy Conservation 2024 on Saturday. The ceremony, held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi, focused on the importance of energy conservation and celebrated the significant contributions to energy efficiency across sectors.

In his address, the Vice President emphasized the collective responsibility of humanity in ensuring the optimal utilization of resources, stating, “Our resources on the planet are not infinite; they are limited. If we engage in reckless exploitation, we are depriving future generations of what is there to use.” He commended innovation and research in finding alternative and renewable sources of energy, crucial for a sustainable future.

Dhankhar presented awards to the winners of the National Painting Competition, which is designed to raise awareness about energy conservation and encourage young minds to express their creativity in shaping a sustainable world. The competition saw participation from students across India, with winners showcasing their talent and commitment to energy efficiency.

Shripad Yesso Naik, Minister of State for Power and New & Renewable Energy, also attended the ceremony. He praised the inclusive nature of India’s energy efficiency initiatives, noting that programs such as the Perform, Achieve and Trade (PAT) scheme, the Standard & Label (S&L) program, and the UJALA scheme have led to significant energy savings.

The event also recognized the contributions of various industries, institutions, and sectors through the presentation of the National Energy Conservation Awards 2024. Naik highlighted how the Energy Conservation (Amendment) Act of 2022 has broadened the scope of energy conservation and emphasized the integration of renewable energy in large residential buildings.

The awards included recognition for efforts made in industries, transport, buildings, institutions, and appliances. A total of 752 applications were received, with 23 first prizes, 19 second prizes, and several Certificates of Merit and Recognition being awarded.

Pankaj Agarwal, Secretary, Ministry of Power, and Srikant Nagulapalli, Director General of the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), also attended the event and acknowledged the significant contributions from all sectors in advancing energy efficiency in India.

In his closing remarks, Vice President Dhankhar urged the young generation to continue their efforts in energy conservation, stressing that their participation in initiatives like the National Painting Competition is crucial to ensuring a sustainable and energy-efficient future.

About the Awards: The National Energy Conservation Awards (NECA) recognize and encourage efforts by industries, transport, buildings, institutions, and appliances to reduce energy consumption. This year, the awards also included recognition for innovative contributions to energy conservation.

The National Painting Competition, organized in three stages—school, state, and national levels—aims to inspire societal change through creative expression and is open to students from classes 5 to 10.
