Dharmasthala, 8th Jan. Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, during his visit to Sri Kshethra Dharmasthala in Karnataka on Wednesday, emphasized the need to eliminate VIP culture, foster equality, and uphold democratic values. Speaking at the inauguration of the Sanidhya Queue Complex and Jnanadeepa Programme 2024-25, he highlighted pressing social, political, and environmental issues, urging collective responsibility for India’s development.
Eliminating VIP Culture
Calling VIP culture an “aberration,” the Vice President asserted that it undermines equality, particularly in religious spaces. “The idea of VIP darshan militates against divinity. Religious institutions represent equality, where no individual stands higher before God,” he said, urging Dharmasthala to set an example of egalitarianism.
Politics Beyond Bitterness
Urging leaders to rise above political hostility, Shri Dhankhar stated, “Politics is not for bitterness; it should serve society and the nation.” He emphasized the need to harmonize the political climate, comparing political divisiveness to climate change as a critical national challenge.
Condemning Public Property Destruction
The Vice President strongly condemned vandalism and public property destruction, labeling it as a “public nuisance” and a threat to national integrity. He called for swift legal action against those responsible, stressing that rogue elements should face strong consequences.
Democracy Defined by Dialogue
Shri Dhankhar underlined the symbiotic relationship between dialogue and expression in a democracy. He criticized parliamentary disruptions, urging representatives to engage in constructive discussions. “The temples of democracy must be vibrant, fostering dialogue and consensual approaches,” he said.
Panch Pran for National Transformation
Highlighting the importance of the Panch Pran (five pledges), the Vice President called for:
- Social harmony.
- Patriotic values in family life.
- Environmentally sustainable practices.
- Promoting Swadeshi and vocalizing support for local industries.
- Focusing on constitutional duties alongside rights.
Corporate Social Responsibility for Religious Institutions
Shri Dhankhar appealed to corporates to allocate CSR funds for developing health and educational infrastructure around religious institutions, emphasizing their role as cultural and spiritual nerve centers.
Acknowledging Dharmasthala’s Contributions
He lauded Dharmasthala’s initiatives in education, healthcare, and rural development, describing the Queue Complex as a “manifestation of inclusivity, hospitality, and service.”
The event saw the presence of several dignitaries, including Shri D. Veerendra Heggade, President of the Sri Kshethra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project, and other prominent figures.
