Violence Erupts in Tihar Jail: Inmate Stabbed, Investigation Underway

A recent incident at Tihar Jail has stirred concerns as inmate Hitesh was reportedly stabbed with a weapon resembling an ice-pick. The altercation, which unfolded on Wednesday, prompted swift action from authorities.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (west) Vichitra Veer provided insights, stating that following a report from Hari Nagar Police Station, local law enforcement responded to the incident at the DDU hospital. Initial inquiries revealed the alleged involvement of individuals identified as Gaurav Lohra and Gurinder, although their identities are subject to further investigation.

Hitesh, who has been incarcerated since 2019, sustained injuries and was promptly transferred to DDU hospital for medical attention. Meanwhile, Gaurav and Gurinder are reportedly undergoing trial for charges related to murder and attempted murder.

In response to the severity of the situation, authorities have initiated legal proceedings under Section 307 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), highlighting the gravity of the offense. This incident evokes memories of past violence within Tihar Jail, including the tragic stabbing of gangster Tajpuriya by members of a rival gang in May last year.
