New Delhi, 7th August. President Droupadi Murmu expressed deep admiration for wrestler Vinesh Phogat’s performance at the Paris Olympics, acknowledging her as a source of national pride despite her recent disqualification.

In a statement posted on X, President Murmu praised Phogat’s “extraordinary feats” at the Olympics, highlighting how her achievements have thrilled and made every Indian proud. Phogat was disqualified from the women’s 50kg final after being found overweight, which left her without a medal despite coming close to winning gold.

“While we all share her disappointment at the disqualification, she remains a champion in the hearts of 1.4 billion people,” Murmu said. She emphasized Phogat’s embodiment of the “truly indefatigable spirit of Indian women” and described her fortitude and resilience as an inspiration for future world champions from India.

President Murmu, who is currently on a three-nation tour, concluded her state visit to Fiji on Wednesday.
