‘Victory of Development, Vision, and Trust’: PM Modi After BJP’s Delhi Win

New Delhi, 8th Feb. Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the BJP’s landslide victory in the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections as a triumph of “development, vision, and trust” (Vikas, Vision, Vishwas). Addressing jubilant party workers, Modi declared that the people of Delhi had rejected “corruption and lies in politics” in favor of “governance, not theatrics”—a direct jibe at the outgoing Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

The BJP, returning to power in Delhi after nearly three decades, secured close to 50 of the 70 seats, while the AAP—dominant in the last two elections—saw its tally slump to just over 20.

Seen as the architect of this historic victory, Modi launched a fierce attack on AAP and the Congress. “The party that emerged from an anti-corruption movement drowned in corruption… Their Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, and ministers went to jail. The liquor scam, school scam—they tarnished Delhi’s image. While Delhi suffered during COVID, they were busy building a Sheesh Mahal,” he said. Modi also vowed to present the CAG report on AAP’s alleged financial mismanagement in the first Vidhan Sabha session, calling it “Modi’s guarantee.”

His criticism of the Congress was even sharper. “India’s oldest party has failed to open its account in six Delhi elections (Lok Sabha and Assembly). The Congress is a parasite that drags down any party it allies with. They steal others’ agendas, target their vote banks, and then steal their votes,” he said. Modi further accused the party of indulging in “Urban Naxal politics” and attempting to spread anarchy, just like AAP.

With the BJP now in power across the entire Delhi-NCR region—including Uttar Pradesh and Haryana—Modi assured voters that the “double-engine government” would fulfill its promises, including tackling pollution, garbage, and sewage issues. He also pledged to transform the Yamuna River—an election flashpoint—into Delhi’s “identity” (pehchaan).

Acknowledging allies, Modi credited the NDA for bringing governance and stability to states like Bihar and Andhra Pradesh. “NDA means a guarantee for development and good governance. It benefits not just the poor but also the middle class,” he said, highlighting the BJP’s growing support from professionals and the middle-class workforce.
