Ranchi, Jharkhand: A 16-year-old tribal girl from Gumla, who had been trafficked in November 2016 to Gurgaon, returned to Ranchi.
The girl, who was employed at a Gurgaon couple’s house as a full-time domestic help, was allegedly raped several times by their cook, a man in his early 30’s named Mohit. The girl delivered an infant on May 31 at a Gurgaon hospital.
Her mother and a cousin, was accompanying the girl, and the baby was sent to Gurgaon Child Welfare Committee. The NGO Shakti Vahini had been by her side since her baby’s delivery.
For three hours, she kept sitting at Childline centre at the station where chairperson of Jharkhand State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) Arti Kujur, social worker from Shakti Vahini Rishi Kant unsuccessfully tried to get her to open up.
“She is speechless… gives blank look as if she has lost all hope and trust. For the first 15 days after her delivery she was not ready to breastfeed her daughter as if she hated the baby and her tormenter (Mohit) equally,” Rishi Kant, who had been instrumental in tracking down her family in Gumla, said.
SCPCR chairperson Kujur said the girl showed dangerous signs of depression. “We will send her for counselling to Rinpas,” she said, adding she sought time from chief minister Raghubar Das too to see the girl’s condition.
Chairperson of the Gurgaon panel Shakuntala Dull said earlier Gurgaon police had booked the accused (Mohit) under Sections 376 and 506. “But after our intervention sections of POCSO Act were added. The girl was not paid her wages. We will summon her employers for that. The trafficking angle must be probed too,” Dull said.
