VHP smashes Congress over the Katchatheevu controversy

New Delhi, 7th April.
The island was given to Sri Lanka by the Indira Gandhi administration in 1974, and the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) denounced this as a “betrayal” of India’s sovereignty and territorial integrity on Thursday, criticizing the Congress over the Katchatheevu problem. S Jaishankar, a BJP leader and Minister of External Affairs, said on April 1 that prior Congress prime ministers showed disregard for the island of Katchatheevu and gave up the rights of Indian fisherman, even if the law said otherwise.

At a news conference, he made his comments the day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi claimed, citing a media report, that new information showed the Congress had “callously” given the island to Sri Lanka. The VHP expressed hope that India’s “patriotic and nationalist” populace will choose a government capable of regaining the island and other Indian areas that have been “occupied” by neighboring nations.

The decision made by the Indira Gandhi government to give the Katchatheevu islet to Sri Lanka was described in a statement by VHP joint general secretary Surendra Jain as “arbitrary and unconstitutional.” This was a betrayal of Parliament, the Tamil Nadu assembly, our millions of fishermen there, and Bharat’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The Vishva Hindu Parishad vehemently denounces the Congress administrations of that era for their egregious disregard and indifference to the sovereignty and integrity of India, the speaker declared.

Jain claimed that Congress regimes have consistently “undermined” national interests in order to further their “personal interests” and have always been “insensitive” to India’s sovereignty and integrity.

“The nation’s resolve will be fulfilled by the patriotic and nationalist people of Bharat electing a government at the center that can free not only the unconstitutionally gifted island of Katchatheevu and its sea and air spaces, but also the entire land-sea-air space of Maa Bharati that has been taken from the aggressors/grabbers,” he declared.

The VHP expressed confidence that a government capable of regaining Katchatheevu and fulfilling the national resolve to reclaim “all our snatched away territories” would “definitely” win the Lok Sabha elections. PTI ANB PK PK ANB
