Alok Kumar, Sr. Advocate and Central Working President of VHP said, “The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) is relieved that the prayer for protection extension was not challenged. The other party agreed that such protection is necessary, and the protection order was extended “until further orders.”
Notably, the Supreme Court on 17.05.2022 ordered that the pious Shivlinga found in the Gyanvapi structure shall be protected.
In the main Varanasi Suit the Intezamia Committee had filed an application alleging that the suit filed on behalf of Hindus was not maintainable. In the technical language, this application was under U/o VII Rule 11 of Code of Civil Procedure.
The Supreme Court protection order was to continue till eight weeks after the decision of the application.
The District Judge dismissed the application on 12.09.2022. The eight weeks time was expiring on Friday, 11.11.2022. Therefore, a request was made before the Hon’ble Supreme Court to extend the protection order of the pious Shivlinga.
