Prime Minister Narendra Modi lays foundation stone of Vadhvan Port worth around Rs 76,000 crore in Palghar, Maharashtra

Palghar, 30th August. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for several major development projects in Palghar, Maharashtra.

Key highlights include the foundation stone laying of the Vadhvan Port, a monumental project worth approximately Rs 76,000 crore, and the inauguration and initiation of 218 fisheries projects totaling around Rs 1,560 crore. Additionally, PM Modi launched the national rollout of the Vessel Communication and Support System, costing around Rs 360 crore.

In his address, Prime Minister Modi paid tribute to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and apologized for recent incidents in Sindhudurg, emphasizing the importance of respecting historical figures and national symbols. He stated, “Taking inspiration from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, we are advancing rapidly towards a developed Maharashtra and India.”

The Prime Minister described Vadhvan Port, located near Dahanu, as a pivotal project that will enhance India’s maritime capabilities, offering deep-water facilities and fostering economic growth through improved trade routes. He highlighted the port’s potential to become one of the world’s largest container ports, creating significant employment opportunities and boosting local businesses.

Further, PM Modi inaugurated the National Rollout of the Vessel Communication and Support System, which will see the installation of 1 lakh transponders on fishing vessels across 13 coastal states and union territories. This system, developed by ISRO, aims to improve communication and safety for fishermen.

In addition to maritime initiatives, the Prime Minister also laid the foundation for various fisheries infrastructure projects, including the development and modernization of fishing harbors, fish landing centers, and fish markets. These projects are expected to generate over five lakh employment opportunities and support the fisheries sector’s growth.

PM Modi praised Maharashtra’s achievements, particularly in women’s empowerment, citing successful women leaders across various sectors in the state. He underscored the role of Maharashtra in India’s development, calling it a crucial element of the broader vision for a “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India).

The event was attended by Maharashtra Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar, and Union Ministers Sarbananda Sonowal and Rajiv Ranjan Singh.

Background: The Vadhvan Port project, a major infrastructure initiative, aims to position India as a key player in global maritime trade. The port will feature advanced technology and facilities, significantly contributing to the region’s economic development. The fisheries projects and Vessel Communication and Support System are designed to bolster the fishing industry, enhance safety, and improve livelihoods for fishermen across the country.
