New Delhi, 20th Feb. The government has extended the tenure of Chief Economic Adviser (CEA) V Anantha Nageswaran for two years, keeping him in office until March 31, 2027. The decision was approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Nageswaran, who assumed charge as CEA on January 28, 2022, plays a crucial role in advising the government on economic policies and overseeing the drafting of the annual Economic Survey. His extension follows the recent Economic Survey 2024-25, which projected India’s GDP growth at 6.3-6.8% for the next financial year, reflecting a resilient economy amid global uncertainties.
Before becoming CEA, Nageswaran was an author, teacher, and consultant. He served as a part-time member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister from 2019 to 2021. His academic background includes an MBA from IIM Ahmedabad and a Ph.D. in Finance from the University of Massachusetts. He has also held leadership roles at institutions like the IFMR Graduate School of Business and Krea University.
With his tenure extended, Nageswaran will continue shaping India’s economic policies as the country navigates growth and financial challenges in the coming years.
