Dehradun, 23rd Dec. The Uttarakhand government has given its approval to the decisions made by an expert panel responsible for drafting a uniform civil code for the state.
During a meeting on Friday, chaired by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the Cabinet approved the decisions made by the drafting committee, as informed by Chief Secretary SS Sandhu.
The committee, led by retired Supreme Court judge Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai, is expected to submit the draft to the state government in January. Once submitted, the implementation process will commence.
The committee was established in May 2022.
In addition, the Cabinet has temporarily halted construction activities for one year in 11 townships along the under-construction Rishikesh-Karnaprayag rail line.
These townships, namely Rishikesh, Shivpuri, Byasi, Sirala, Chilgarh-Malla, Maletha, Shrinagar, Dhari Devi, Tilani, Gholtir, and Gauchar, will be redeveloped according to a master plan, as stated by Sandhu.
The Cabinet has also decided to provide one kilogram of iodised salt per month at a cost of 8 rupees to Antyodaya and BPL card holders.
Furthermore, the State Industrial Development Authority has been granted the authority to approve all maps in Uttarakhand’s industrial areas.
Additionally, it has been decided to unfreeze 195 positions in the Roadways department that are reserved for dependants of employees who pass away during their service period.
The Cabinet has also approved the filling of 327 new positions for constables and sub-inspectors in six police stations and 21 outposts that have been transferred from the revenue to the regular police.
Lastly, a decision has been made to increase the financial assistance provided to candidates who qualify the Union Public Service Commission, defense forces, and NDA prelims from 50,000 rupees to 1 lakh rupees.
