New Delhi, 24th May. Congress party will shortly announce the new party chief in its Uttar Pradesh unit after a huge defeat in the assembly polls.
The Uttar Pradesh Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief post has been lying vacant since Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi asked the state chiefs of five states to resign after defeat in polls.
On Monday, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra held a meeting with senior party leaders of UP at 10 Janpath in New Delhi. Former MP Rashid Alvi, Pramod Tiwari, Rajesh Mishra and several other Congress leaders were present during the meeting held on Monday.
An official statement regarding the new chief of the Uttar Pradesh Congress will be made soon.
“Decision over Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee chief will be taken soon. However, it was an internal meeting, so we can not disclose the details,” Rashid Alvi said.
Congress faced a massive defeat in recently concluded Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa, Manipur and Punjab assembly polls.
