Washington, 5th June. The United States has lauded the Indian government and its citizens for their successful participation and completion of the Lok Sabha elections. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s imminent third consecutive term victory has drawn attention, despite setbacks in three Hindi heartland states.
The Election Commission of India has announced results for 542 out of 543 Lok Sabha constituencies, with the BJP securing 240 seats and the Congress 99. State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller commended India for conducting such a massive electoral exercise and expressed anticipation for the final results.
Miller refrained from offering definitive comments on the election results, emphasizing the importance of awaiting the official outcome. He emphasized the significance of democracy, noting the historic turnout and participation of the Indian electorate.
Addressing speculations about external influence in Indian elections, Miller denied any attempts by Western powers, including the US, to interfere in the electoral process. He reaffirmed the US stance of expressing concerns openly and transparently, without intending to influence election outcomes.
Miller highlighted the enduring partnership between the US and India, expressing confidence in its continuity at both government and people-to-people levels. He underscored the strength of the bilateral relationship and anticipated its sustained growth.
