Lucknow, 5th April. Preparations have started for the municipal elections to be held in Uttar Pradesh. Discussion at the Urban Development Department level is going on regarding the formation of wards, delimitation and reservation of seats in newly formed municipal bodies.

Brainstorming is underway to determine the number of populations in the formation of wards, including at least 10 and maximum 24 wards in Nagar Panchayats and at least 25 and maximum 56 wards in Nagar Palika Parishads. Whereas in Municipal Corporations minimum 60 and maximum 110 wards can be considered.

In the municipal elections held in 2017, on the basis of the 2011 census, the formation of wards according to the population and the reservation formula on the basis of caste-wise population was prepared. But this time the situation has changed a lot. The officials are considering the new formula of delimitation of wards and reservation in view of the situation after the formation of new municipal bodies and after the expansion of the boundary.

In 2017, elections were held in 16 municipal corporations, 198 palika parishads and 438 nagar panchayats. This time elections are to be held in 17 Municipal Corporations, 200 Palika Parishads and 517 Nagar Panchayats. So first of all, wards have to be constituted in them. After the completion of the process of ward formation, the reservation of wards will be done and after that there will be reservation of seats of mayor and president.

Soon there will be a meeting of the officers with the departmental minister, in which after deciding the formula, the proposal will be placed before the Chief Minister.
