Union Minister Kiren Rijiju to Chair All-Party Meeting Ahead of Budget Session

New Delhi, 17th July. Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju will convene an All-Party meeting on July 21 in preparation for the upcoming Budget Session of Parliament, scheduled to commence on July 22. The meeting aims to ensure efficient functioning of both houses during the session.

According to an official press release from the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, the meeting will gather floor leaders from political parties across the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha at 9 am in the Main Committee Room, Parliament House Annexe, New Delhi. The session’s agenda includes discussions on enhancing parliamentary efficacy.

This session marks the first Budget Session following the 18th Lok Sabha elections, where BJP and its allies retained a majority. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is scheduled to present the Union Budget on July 23, initiating debates in both houses.

In preparation, FM Sitharaman conducted extensive consultations with industry, healthcare sectors, and state finance ministers. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also engaged with economists and sector experts on July 11 to gather insights and recommendations.

Various sectors, including healthcare and startups, have voiced expectations from the upcoming budget. The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has called for increased health allocations to 2.5% of GDP, while the Association of Indian Medical Device Industry (AiMeD) seeks higher customs duties on medical devices. Startups have urged the removal of the angel tax and increased funding for health tech innovations.
