Gandhinagar, 31st August. The 7th Rashtriya Poshan Maah was officially launched on Saturday by Union Minister for Women and Child Development Annpurna Devi at Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.
The event, which marks a significant effort to combat malnutrition and promote nutritional awareness across India, was attended by Gujarat’s Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel, along with other dignitaries.
The event kicked off with a nationwide plantation drive under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” initiative, emphasizing the connection between environmental sustainability and nutrition. Fruit-bearing trees were planted at an Anganwadi Centre in Gandhinagar, led by the Union Minister and other senior officials.
During the main event, Gujarat’s Chief Minister stressed the importance of nutrition in building a strong and healthy population, vital for the country’s development. Union Minister Annpurna Devi highlighted the lifecycle approach to improving the health of children, adolescents, pregnant women, and lactating mothers, focusing on the pillars of good governance, convergence, capacity building, and community participation.
The Union Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to the mission, stating that “Poshan Maah is becoming a nationwide festival and is taking the form of a Jan Andolan.” The month-long campaign under Mission Poshan 2.0 aims to intensify efforts to combat malnutrition and promote holistic well-being nationwide.
The themes for the 7th Rashtriya Poshan Maah include Anaemia, Growth Monitoring, Complementary Feeding, Poshan Bhi Padhai Bhi, Technology for Better Governance, and Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam. Various initiatives like Nutri baskets for pregnant and lactating mothers, annaprashan for infants, and exhibitions showcasing nutrition and women’s safety were also organized.
The event reflects the government’s ongoing efforts to realize Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a ‘Suposhit Bharat’—a well-nourished India—through community-driven and inclusive approaches to nutrition.
