Union Health Ministry Seizes Spurious Drugs in Kolkata Raid

New Delhi, 31st Dec. In a major move against the illicit trade of spurious drugs, the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) and the Drugs Control Directorate, West Bengal, carried out a joint investigation at a wholesale premises in Kolkata. The raid at M/s Care and Cure For You resulted in the seizure of a large quantity of suspected spurious anti-cancer, anti-diabetic, and other drugs.

The drugs, labelled as manufactured in countries including Ireland, Turkey, the USA, and Bangladesh, lacked the necessary import documentation, raising concerns about their authenticity. In addition to the seized drugs, several empty packaging materials were found, further heightening suspicions.

The total estimated market value of the seized drugs is around Rs. 6.60 crore. Samples of the drugs have been sent for quality testing, and the remaining quantity is secured under the custody of the CDSCO.

The investigation led to the arrest of the woman proprietor of the wholesale firm, who is now in judicial custody for 14 days. The authorities continue their investigation into the case.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare remains committed to ensuring public safety and combatting counterfeit drugs. This action reaffirms the government’s firm stance against the circulation of spurious drugs and its commitment to consumer protection.
