Tribal Heroes Played Important Role in Country’s Independence: Governor Uikey

Raipur, 5th September. Chhattisgarh Governor Anusuiya Uikey attended a program organized by Indian Institute of Management Raipur on Sunday.

Governor Uike while addressing the gathering said that it is a matter of great pride that in this year of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, programs on the topic of Tribal Contribution in Freedom Struggle are being organized in various universities across the country.

Governor Uikey said that Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav is a wonderful initiative started by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. Through this, all those anonymous tribal heroes who contributed to the independence of the country will be recognized. With this, today’s young generation will be made aware of their contribution towards the country.

Governor Uikey said that a large number of women, men and children of this community under the leadership of thousands of heroes of the tribal community laid down their lives for the country while fighting relentlessly against the tyranny of the British rule. Today’s youth should take inspiration from the lives of all those tribals who made their invaluable contribution to the country’s independence.

She said that there were many great tribal leaders of Chhattisgarh like Veer Gundadhur, Dalganjan Singh, Hidma Manjhi, Dhurvarao, Nangul Dorla, Jhada Sirha, Veer Narayan Singh, Birsamunda, Rani Durgavati, who fought against the British and exploitative elements.

In the freedom struggle, many revolts like Halba Rebellion, Paralkot Rebellion, Koi Rebellion, Muria Rebellion and Bhumkal Rebellion were carried out by the tribal communities of Chhattisgarh.

At the same time, while continuously making all the tribals aware against various social evils, they gave a new direction to the country and society. They fought relentlessly to protect the religion and culture of our country.

The Governor said that we should always strive to protect this freedom that we got after a long struggle. At the same time, we should also strive for the preservation and promotion of our ancient religion and culture.

On this occasion S.G.S.I.T.S. Milind Dandekar of Indore said that the tribal community played an important role in the independence of the country. This community strongly opposed the British government to protect its forests. He said that today’s new generation should take inspiration from the sacrifices of the tribal community and emulate their rich history and culture.

Secretary to the Government of India, Alka Tiwari apprised the gathering about the duties of the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes, its powers and its functioning.

Professors and students of the university including Prof. Ramkumar Kankani, Director of IIM Raipur and Colonel Harindra Tripathi, were present on this occasion.
