Ambikapur, 20th Nov: President of India Droupadi Murmu on Thursday hailed tribal communities as key pillars of India’s democratic legacy while addressing the Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas celebration organised by the Chhattisgarh government in Ambikapur, Surguja district.
“The contribution of tribal communities is a glorious chapter in the history of India, the mother of democracy,” she said, referring to ancient republic traditions and systems such as Bastar’s ‘Muria Darbar,’ which reflect indigenous models of people’s governance.
The President noted that tribal culture has enriched several regions including Chhattisgarh, Odisha and Jharkhand, and appreciated the state government’s large-scale celebration of Tribal Pride Fortnight earlier this month.
Murmu underlined that the Union government has prioritised tribal development through initiatives such as the Dharti Aba Janjati Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan and the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM-JANMAN), aimed at uplifting 75 Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups. She also cited the Adi Karmayogi Abhiyan, which is building a volunteer network of nearly 20 lakh people to accelerate welfare efforts at the grassroots.
Expressing satisfaction over the steady decline in Left Wing Extremism, she credited joint actions by central and state administrations. The recent Bastar Olympics, which saw participation from more than 1.65 lakh people, were cited as evidence of growing hope and integration.
President Murmu expressed confidence that inspired by tribal icons, the people of Chhattisgarh will continue to contribute towards a self-reliant and developed India.
