Kolkata, 27th August. In a tragic case that has sent shockwaves through Kolkata, Sanjay Roy, the primary accused in the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, reportedly admitted to his involvement during a CBI lie-detector test. New revelations paint a disturbing picture of Roy’s actions leading up to the horrific crime, as disclosed by several media outlets.
According to reports, Roy spent the night of August 8 visiting red-light districts and engaging in disturbing behavior. He confessed to visiting two areas in Kolkata—Sonagachi and Chetla—where he molested a woman on the street. Although he did not engage in sexual activity, Roy allegedly pressured his girlfriend via video call to send nude photographs. His psychoanalytical profile, prepared by the CBI, revealed he had a perverse addiction to pornography and demonstrated what an official described as “animal instincts.”
On the evening of August 8, Roy visited RG Kar Hospital to check on the brother of a friend. Later, he and his friend went out drinking, after which they visited the red-light areas. While his friend engaged in illicit activities, Roy waited outside before returning to the hospital.
CCTV footage from the hospital showed Roy wandering the corridors of the trauma center at approximately 4:03 AM on August 9. The victim, a young trainee doctor, had gone to rest in the seminar hall when she was brutally attacked. Her autopsy revealed 25 internal and external injuries, underscoring the severity of the assault.
After allegedly committing the crime, Roy visited the home of his friend, Kolkata police officer Anupam Dutta. Despite his initial confession, Roy later made a U-turn, claiming his innocence in court, stating that the victim was already deceased when he arrived at the seminar hall. Investigators believe Roy has been attempting to mislead authorities.
The CBI, in its investigation, has also subjected several other doctors from RG Kar Medical College to polygraph tests as part of the ongoing probe.
The incident has raised concerns about security at the hospital and ignited outrage among the medical fraternity, who are demanding swift justice for the victim.
