West Bengal, 2nd June. In a startling event, BJP leader Hafizul Sheikh was shot dead and purportedly decapitated by Trinamool Congress members on Saturday during the seventh phase of voting in Chandpur village, Nadia district.
According to our sources, the relatives of the deceased stated that they were BJP followers and that the 35-year-old Hafizul was assassinated by miscreants funded by Trinamool.
The incident took place in the Chandpur area of the Kaliganj police station on Saturday night. According to the local police, Hafizul Sheikh was playing carrom board in a tea shop in that region. When some miscreants arrived on a motorcycle, they opened fire on Hafizul. He passed away right away. Furious by the police’s lack of response, the mob began demonstrating around the officers, calling for their arrest as the Devagram outpost police arrived to retrieve the body.
Local accounts stated that a small number of attackers appeared clothed in khaki clothes, resembling police officers. In all seven election phases, electoral violence has plagued Bengal. Just three days remain until the Lok Sabha elections are announced. This murder in the seat of TMC candidate Mahua Moitra has caused a political upheaval in the state.
The brother of the deceased leader demanded an investigation by the CBI, telling the media that Hafizul was playing carrom when a powerful local TMC politician and his allies shot him twice in the sun. He added that the TMC workers proceeded to use bombs to attack the homes of other BJP workers.
