This Is Why We Call Him ‘Pappu’: BJP Mocks Rahul Gandhi Over ‘Orthopedic Surgeon’ Gaffe

New Delhi: A video clip from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s public outreach has sparked a political row after it showed a man being introduced as an orthopedic surgeon, who was later claimed by the BJP to be a compounder. The incident, captured on video and uploaded to Gandhi’s official YouTube channel, has provided fresh fodder for criticism from the BJP ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections.

In the video, at the 25:40 mark, the event’s announcer introduces K.P. Singh as an orthopedic surgeon. Singh also reiterated the title while addressing the gathering. Later, at 50:14, Rahul Gandhi referred to Singh multiple times as an orthopedic surgeon during his speech.

However, BJP leader Neeraj Kumar challenged the claim, alleging that Singh is not a qualified surgeon but a compounder who worked with an orthopedic doctor in Begusarai. “This is why we call him ‘Pappu’,” Kumar said, taking a swipe at Gandhi. “If Rahul Gandhi dreams of becoming the Prime Minister, he should at least understand the difference between a doctor and a compounder. The role of Leader of Opposition demands seriousness.”

Kumar further alleged that Gandhi’s public misstatements undermine his credibility and reflect poorly on his ability to lead. He added that such mistakes play directly into the BJP’s narrative and questioned whether Gandhi intended to be a genuine challenger or a campaign asset for the ruling party.

Congress leaders, meanwhile, defended the event, saying the issue was being unnecessarily politicized and diverted attention from the real concerns being raised by the people during Gandhi’s campaign.

The controversy comes amid heightened political activity in Bihar, where both BJP and Congress are preparing for a fierce contest in the upcoming state elections. With every public appearance being closely scrutinized, the incident has further fueled the ongoing war of words between the two national parties.
