Bhopal, 16th August. Thieves targeted the official bungalow of Congress MLA Jaivardhan Singh in the upscale Char Imli area, making off with over ₹12,000 in cash, police reported on Thursday. The burglary occurred despite the bungalow’s proximity to the Central Bureau of Investigation office.
According to Inspector Ajay Kumar Soni of Habibganj police station, the theft was discovered on August 13. The lock of a room occupied by the MLA’s staff member was broken, and between ₹12,000 and ₹15,000, which was kept in a briefcase inside an almirah, was stolen.
The police have enlisted the help of a forensic science laboratory team and are questioning individuals who were seen loitering in the area. CCTV footage is also being reviewed as part of the investigation.
While MLA Jaivardhan Singh could not be reached for comment, his father, Congress veteran Digvijaya Singh, criticized the BJP government in the state over the incident.
Singh took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his frustration, saying that the theft at a government residence reflects poorly on the current government.
“When bidding takes place for (posting at) police stations, this is bound to happen. Theft has taken place at the government residence of @JVSingh. What can be expected from @CP-Bhopal,” he tweeted.
