New Delhi, 11th Sept. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday addressed the Second International Conference on Green Hydrogen, highlighting the urgency and potential of green energy solutions.
The Prime Minister emphasized that the time for action on climate change is immediate, urging global leaders and experts to collaborate on advancing green technologies.
PM Modi commended India for being among the first G20 nations to meet its Paris Agreement commitments on green energy, achieving these goals nine years ahead of the 2030 target. He noted that India’s non-fossil fuel capacity had surged nearly 300% and solar energy capacity had increased over 3,000% in the past decade. Despite these advancements, he stressed that India is committed to continuous improvement and innovation, with Green Hydrogen poised to play a crucial role.
“Green Hydrogen is emerging as a promising addition to the world’s energy landscape,” the Prime Minister said, citing its potential to decarbonize hard-to-electrify industries such as refineries, fertilizers, and steel. He also highlighted its utility in storing surplus renewable energy. Modi praised the National Green Hydrogen Mission for driving innovation, infrastructure development, and investment, aiming to establish India as a global hub for Green Hydrogen production and export.
The Prime Minister underscored the importance of international cooperation in scaling up Green Hydrogen production, reducing costs, and building necessary infrastructure. He recalled the G20 Summit in New Delhi, where leaders adopted five voluntary principles on Hydrogen, fostering a unified global roadmap.
PM Modi called for domain experts and scientists to lead efforts in overcoming challenges and accelerating technological advancements. He posed critical questions about improving the efficiency of electrolysers and exploring alternative production methods using seawater and municipal wastewater.
In conclusion, PM Modi encouraged global collaboration and innovation, reflecting on humanity’s history of overcoming challenges through collective efforts. “We can achieve anything when we are together,” he asserted, urging participants to work towards a sustainable future through the development and deployment of Green Hydrogen.
