The Sabarmati Report” Film- Unanswered Questions: Role of Politicians and Media in the Godhra Killing Conspiracy
Kumar Rakesh
The movie “The Sabarmati Report” has undoubtedly shed light on a chapter of Bharat’s history that demands much more than just cinematic interpretation. While it brings forward crucial facts, many questions remain unanswered—most notably, who were the politicians from Gujarat and Delhi who allegedly planned and fueled the conspiracy behind the tragic events? The film makes a compelling case, but we must remember that there are still many truths that are obscured.
As a part of a special facts-finding team led by Justice Tewatia, alongside senior leaders like Shyam ji Khosla, I have firsthand knowledge of the gravity of the situation. Our team submitted a report to the then-Prime Minister, asserting that the incident was not a mere mishap but a well-orchestrated conspiracy. This crucial document, which was submitted after our visit to Godhra, highlighted the larger political and social context behind the violence, far from the narrative being peddled by many.
At the time, we faced significant opposition, particularly from Delhi’s Lutyens media houses. These outlets, biased in their reporting, seemed intent on downplaying the issue, following a political agenda rather than reporting the truth. Their portrayal of the event as a human error, rather than a planned conspiracy, left many crucial questions unanswered and skewed public perception.
Today, as we look at the role of media, the situation doesn’t appear to have changed much. Despite the many accomplishments of the Modi government over the past decade, the government-controlled media, including Prasar Bharati, continues to fail at providing objective, fact-based reporting. Rather than being led by seasoned, professional journalists, these platforms are managed by bureaucrats who lack the insight and expertise needed to ensure balanced reporting. Most of the bureaucrats are old set minds of congress agenda .Still they have hidden agenda & time to time they come out with their venom .One of the bureaucrats who try to destroy the main focus of Information & broadcasting ministry .now he seems to be very close with PMO of Our Modi ji Government.its a miracle & magic of bureaucracy, as I have been seen since more than 35 years in central government & parliamentary corridors.
On the other hand, private media houses, while generally more balanced, still show a tendency to flip their stance when political winds shift. This was clearly evident before the 2024 elections, where many media outlets appeared to sit on the fence, only to turn nationalistic after the BJP’s electoral victory. This inconsistency in reporting is a serious concern, and it calls into question the impartiality of the media’s role in a democracy.
It is time to reassess how both government and private media outlets function, especially when it comes to covering sensitive issues like the Godhra incident. The role of media must be to provide unbiased, fact-driven narratives, especially when dealing with matters of national significance. It is crucial that the government takes a more active role in ensuring that media outlets, both public and private, serve the public interest rather than perpetuate political agendas.
The past 10 years under the PM Narendra Bhai Modi ji government have seen significant progress in areas like infrastructure, healthcare, and rural development. These efforts should be highlighted and communicated more effectively to the public. A more professional and accountable media is necessary to ensure that the benefits of these policies reach the ground level, where they can truly make a difference to people’s lives.
I urge all concerned, including media houses, government bodies, and citizens, to reflect on the role of journalism in shaping our democracy. It is essential that we bring forth the truth, acknowledge the mistakes of the past, and work towards a future where the media can play its rightful role in delivering factual, unbiased information to the people.
I will also highlight one important issues related with media fraternity, why a section of media are playing in the hands of anti national groups only for some vested interests ? Why ? Why they are advocating those anti National Muslim groups those are engaged to divide our Bharat again ?? Why they didn’t understand ethos & culture of Bharat as Bhartiya. Its ok. If you don’t like strong & nationalistic face of Our Global Leader & PM Narendra Bhai Modi, it’s acceptable but in the name of anti Modi ,they all are now seems to anti Bharat ?? Why ?
We should learn lessons from Media in many developed & developing foreign countries. I have personally observed media role of G7 & other countries, but they are first for Nations .So we should be more nationalistic in our writing & opinion for the sake of Vishwa Guru Bharat, as our Old historical facts supports us with all inputs ,as our History & culture had been tried to divert & destroy from our original Vedic & Sanatan power.
