The Jammu and Kashmir Police Department has established a women’s safety team in Srinagar to assist ladies in distress. The squad’s primary mission will be to guarantee the safety of girls, particularly in and around schools, colleges, universities, coaching centers, and other public locations.

According to the Jammu and Kashmir Police, having a woman safety unit in Srinagar will make women feel a lot safer. Girls who were harassed outside of coaching centers or colleges will no longer be harassed, as the females now have a specialized squad to which they may complain if necessary.

“I am overjoyed that this move has been done in Srinagar. There was a need for this, to create a women’s safety squad dedicated to women’s protection in the city. Since the start of offline classes, coaching centres, schools, and colleges have opened, and many people have asked us that the females are being harassed in various areas, so we took this move in light of the recent acid assault in Srinagar. The squad’s main goal is to make the city’s females feel safer,” stated Sujit Kumar, DIG Srinagar.

During the day, the women’s squad would patrol the city, particularly around educational institutions.
The leaders of the institutions have been instructed to inform the squad if an event occurs outside of their facilities. This action was done in response to a recent acid attack in Srinagar. The Jammu and Kashmir Police felt there was a need for a dedicated squad for the city’s girls.

“The Jammu and Kashmir Police has made an important step in ensuring women’s protection by establishing a specific women’s safety unit in the city. Following the latest acid incident in Srinagar, police believed this was necessary. We’ve been assigned to two locations outside the coaching centres in Hyderpora, and I’m in charge of them.

We have enough vehicles and female squads to ensure the girls’ safety. “The girls are feeling lot safer now that we have begun patrolling,” remarked a female police officer.

Everyone in the city, especially the female students, praised the initiative. They saw a need for a separate female squad outside of educational institutions. Women are more likely to report a crime if the cops are also female.
