On April 16, 2022, the BJP claimed that the Congress and other opposition parties engage in “vulture politics” over dead bodies and are only interested in destroying social harmony.

Late last night, the BJP issued a statement in response to a joint statement from opposition parties condemning recent incidents of hate speech and communal violence in the country.

The opposition also chastised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his “muteness.”
The opposition’s attack on Modi, according to BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia, is akin to throwing mud into the sky.

He also claimed that the opposition’s appeal to the people to keep peace and harmony is as hollow as the leaders’ intentions behind the statement.

Bhatia questioned Congress President Sonia Gandhi about the Karauli riots in Rajasthan, alleging that rioters are not being prosecuted because of her party’s appeasement politics.

He accused Rahul Gandhi of siding with the rioters and inflaming the situation. Noting that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has also signed the statement, the BJP leader questioned Sonia Gandhi about her “silence” on alleged violence in the state and a recent rape and murder case involving a minor.
