Hyderabad, 30th August. Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy issued an “unconditional” apology on Friday over his controversial remarks concerning BRS leader K Kavitha’s bail in a money-laundering case. The apology followed a stern rebuke from the Supreme Court, which expressed deep concern over his statements suggesting that the bail was the result of a “deal” between ex-Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s party and the ruling BJP.
The Supreme Court highlighted the seriousness of the CM’s comments, emphasizing that such statements could create mistrust in the judiciary. The court questioned the appropriateness of a constitutional post holder making such allegations, stressing the need for mutual respect between politicians and the judiciary. The court further warned that if the judiciary is not respected, it may consider moving the trial elsewhere.
On Friday, Reddy took to social media platform X to clarify his stance, stating that he holds the Indian Judiciary in the highest regard and faith. He expressed regret for any impressions his earlier comments might have created, insisting that his remarks were taken out of context. He reiterated his respect for the judiciary, underscoring his commitment to the Constitution and the independence of the judicial process.
The controversy arose after Reddy commented that BRS leader K Kavitha’s bail in the Delhi liquor policy case was a result of political maneuvering between the BRS and the BJP. Earlier in March, following Kavitha’s arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in Hyderabad, Reddy had accused BRS leader KCR and Prime Minister Modi of staging “political dramas” in the state.
