New Delhi- President Droupadi Murmu addressed the officer trainees of the 78th batch of the Indian Revenue Service (IRS) at Rashtrapati Bhavan today, emphasizing their critical role in ensuring fair and transparent tax collection for the nation’s development.
Highlighting the significance of taxation in a vibrant economy, the President underscored the need for efficiency and fairness in revenue administration. She noted that India’s growing infrastructure and digital advancements are making economic opportunities more accessible, but sustainable growth requires public trust in the tax system.
President Murmu acknowledged the increasing role of digital technology in tax governance, praising the use of advanced data analytics to detect discrepancies while ensuring honest taxpayers face minimal inconvenience. However, she reminded the trainees that “technology is just a tool” and cannot replace human values such as empathy and integrity.
She urged the officer trainees to uphold fairness and dignity while ensuring compliance, stressing that their decisions should foster inclusivity and support the underprivileged.
The batch, currently undergoing induction training at the National Academy of Direct Taxes (NADT), Nagpur, also includes two officer trainees from the Royal Bhutan Service.
