Surat, 21st Jan. In a unique gesture of creativity and diplomacy, a diamond firm in Surat has crafted an impressive carving of US President Donald Trump using a 4.5-carat laboratory-grown diamond. The stunning piece, which took three months to create, is set to be presented to Trump, who took the oath for a historic second term on Monday.
Greenlab Diamonds, known for its expertise in lab-grown diamonds, previously made waves with a 7.5-carat eco-friendly diamond gifted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Jill Biden, wife of former US President Joe Biden, during his state visit in 2023.
The latest carving, valued at approximately Rs 8,50,000, is a striking replica of Trump’s face, with every detail meticulously crafted. “We took three months to prepare this diamond, which includes growing, cutting, and polishing. Our experts aimed to make it an accurate representation of Mr Trump’s face. This is an important symbol for the relationship between India and the US,” said Smith Patel, one of the owners of Greenlab Diamonds. He added, “We want to convey to Mr Trump that our creativity and efforts in producing lab-grown diamonds will continue.”
The intricate carving was created by five experienced jewellers from Surat, renowned globally for its diamond cutting and polishing industry. Patel emphasized the precision involved in making the carving, stating, “It was made with utmost precision and will be presented to Mr Trump as a special gift.”
The popularity of laboratory-grown diamonds has surged, and the Indian government has announced plans to promote these eco-friendly diamonds as part of efforts to strengthen the diamond industry. This trend follows Prime Minister Modi’s earlier gifting of a 7.5-carat lab-grown diamond to Jill Biden, placed in a handmade papier-mâché box from Kashmir, known as ‘kar-e-kalamdani’.
President Trump was sworn in on Monday, pledging to enact immediate orders on immigration and US cultural issues as part of his dramatic comeback. With his hand raised in the air and the other placed on a Bible, Trump took the oath beneath the majestic Rotunda of the US Capitol, marking the beginning of his second term as the 47th President of the United States.
