Mumbai, 5th June. In a fiercely contested battle that captured much attention, NCP (SP) candidate Supriya Sule successfully retained her Baramati Lok Sabha seat, overcoming the challenge posed by her estranged cousin’s wife, Sunetra Pawar. Sule secured victory by a substantial margin of over 1.55 lakh votes.
The electoral face-off between Supriya Sule and Sunetra Pawar, wife of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, became the focal point of the political landscape in Maharashtra. Sule’s victory marked her fourth consecutive term in office, reaffirming her stronghold in the region.
With 7,32,312 votes in her favor, Supriya Sule emerged triumphant over Sunetra Pawar, who garnered 5,73,979 votes. Despite Ajit Pawar’s significant influence in the family bastion of Baramati, Sule’s victory underscored her enduring popularity among voters.
The high-stakes contest witnessed an intense campaign, with both factions of the Pawar family leaving no stone unturned. Sharad Pawar actively engaged with voters, while Ajit Pawar held numerous public meetings, reflecting the familial rift that has defined Maharashtra politics in recent times.
Following her victory, Supriya Sule expressed gratitude to the constituents of Baramati and emphasized the importance of unity and civility in electoral politics. She urged for a departure from divisive tactics and stressed the need to uphold Maharashtra’s political culture and values.
