New Delhi, 30th August. Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar today vehemently condemned remarks labeling violence against women as a ‘symptomatic malaise,’ addressing students and faculty at Bharati College, University of Delhi. Dhankhar expressed his deep disapproval of such statements, which he criticized for trivializing the severity of these incidents.

Speaking on the theme ‘Role of Women in Viksit Bharat,’ Dhankhar expressed his dismay at high-profile figures, including members of the Supreme Court Bar and Parliament, who downplay the gravity of violence against women. “I am appalled, pained, and somewhat surprised by these remarks. To suggest that such incidents are commonplace is a grave injustice,” he stated.

The Vice-President emphasized that such statements undermine the suffering of women and girls, calling them shameful and a form of moral abdication. “We must not trivialize the suffering of our girls for partisan or self-interest. Such actions are an extreme injustice to humanity,” Dhankhar asserted.

Dhankhar echoed President’s call for zero tolerance towards violence against women, urging citizens to adopt a national stance of “enough is enough.” He stressed that creating a system with zero tolerance for victimization is essential for upholding civilization and human dignity. “We must resolve to ensure that no girl or woman is ever victimized. Anything less is a blow to our collective values,” he emphasized.

Addressing the fear that pervades the lives of women and girls, Dhankhar warned that a society where they do not feel safe is not civilized and impedes progress. He also underscored the importance of financial independence for women, stating that it is crucial for unlocking their full potential and contributing to national development.

Highlighting the role of women as vital stakeholders in various sectors of the economy, Dhankhar called for the eradication of gender disparities in pay and opportunities. “The current disparity in qualifications and pay must change. We need an equitable ecosystem,” he added.

On the topic of India’s growth, Dhankhar emphasized that progress cannot be achieved without the active participation of women. “Girls and women are essential to realizing the vision of a developed India by 2047. Their talent and energy are indispensable,” he remarked.

Dhankhar also advocated for the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code, describing it as a necessary measure for justice and gender equality. He lauded the potential impact of reserving one-third of parliamentary and legislative seats for women, predicting it will revolutionize policymaking.

In addition, Dhankhar expressed concern over the youth’s focus on government jobs, urging them to explore broader opportunities and avoid the pitfalls of commercialized coaching. He also addressed the importance of national interest, urging citizens to prioritize the country’s welfare over political or personal gains.

Finally, Dhankhar highlighted the urgent need to combat climate change and endorsed the Prime Minister’s ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative, calling on everyone to plant trees in honor of their mothers and grandmothers.
