Hyderabad, 28th Sept. President Droupadi Murmu attended the 21st convocation of NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad, on Saturday.
In her address to the graduating students, the President emphasized the pivotal role of the Constitution, highlighting its ideals of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity rooted in the nation’s freedom struggle.
President Murmu drew attention to the unequal access to justice faced by economically disadvantaged individuals, calling on young legal professionals to become change agents. She urged them to work towards ensuring that justice is accessible to all, regardless of financial status, in line with the Directive Principles of State Policy.
She also reminded the students of their duty as advocates to not only represent their clients but also assist the courts in upholding justice. The President encouraged the graduates to uphold integrity and courage, stating that “speaking truth to power” is essential for real strength.
President Murmu praised NALSAR for its initiatives, especially in addressing issues related to disability, prison justice, juvenile justice, and legal aid. She commended the university for establishing an Animal Law Centre, emphasizing the need for younger generations to protect the environment, animals, and natural resources.
In her concluding remarks, the President highlighted the importance of women’s safety and urged NALSAR to spearhead a nationwide network of women advocates and law students.
She expressed confidence that such a network would work diligently to prevent atrocities against women and ensure justice in such cases.
