Moradabad, 14th Feb. A court in Uttar Pradesh’s Moradabad sentenced Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Azam Khan and his MLA son Abdullah Azam to two years in prison in a 15-year-old case on Monday.
However, both have been granted bail by the court.
Smita Goswami, the judge of the MP-MLA court, sentenced the duo to jail and fined them 3,000 each, according to district government counsel Nitin Gupta.
According to Special Public Prosecutor Mohan Lal Vishnoi, the FIR against Khan, Azam, and seven other people was filed in 2008.
The accused had staged a dharna on a state highway on January 29, 2008, after their cavalcade was stopped by police for questioning in the aftermath of a December 31, 2007 attack on a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) camp in Rampur, Uttar Pradesh.
The complaint was filed at the Chhajlait police station.
While Khan and Azam were sentenced to two years in prison under Section 353 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and other provisions, the seven other accused were exonerated.
The court has granted bail to both Khan and Azam, said defence lawyer Shahnawaz Hussain.
