Sometimes Violence is Necessary to Protect Non-Violence: RSS Leader Bhaiyyaji Joshi

Ahmedabad, 23rd Jan. Senior Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leader Bhaiyyaji Joshi on Thursday emphasized that violence is sometimes “necessary” to protect the principle of non-violence, urging collective efforts to foster global peace.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the ‘Hindu Spiritual & Service Fair’ at Gujarat University grounds, Joshi remarked that Hindus have a longstanding commitment to safeguarding their faith. He cited the Mahabharata to illustrate how the Pandavas deviated from conventional rules of war to defeat ‘adharma’ (unrighteousness).

“Hinduism inherently values non-violence, but when the idea of non-violence is threatened, we may need to resort to violence to protect it,” he stated, adding that India’s philosophy is rooted in the inclusivity of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” (the world is one family).

Joshi asserted that peace cannot exist if any religion prohibits others from practicing their beliefs. “India is uniquely positioned to unite the world and ensure global harmony,” he said, emphasizing that a strong India and Hindu community would uplift the weak and marginalized.

Highlighting the Hindu tradition of service, Joshi pointed to the contributions of temples and gurdwaras, which provide food to millions daily, and religious organizations that operate schools, gurukuls, and hospitals.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the fair, which showcased India’s spiritual heritage and service-oriented traditions.

Joshi concluded by underscoring that Hinduism is not just a religion but a way of life, centered on humanity, truth, and justice.
