Indore, 12th June: Srashti Raghuvanshi, whose brother Raja was tragically murdered during his honeymoon, is facing a wave of criticism for her Instagram videos. In these reels, she openly confronts her sister-in-law, Sonam – the main suspect in Raja’s death. Critics accuse Srashti of exploiting her family’s tragedy to gain online followers and views.
Since Raja’s body was found in a Meghalaya gorge, Srashti has been posting videos to raise awareness and demand justice. However, many social media users have not reacted kindly, claiming she’s using the situation for personal gain.
Srashti has now hit back at the backlash, defending her decision to go public. In a recent Instagram post, she argued that keeping silent would have meant the case might have been quickly closed without finding Raja’s killers.
“Whoever is saying that I’m using my brother’s death to increase my followers and views, it’s not like that,” Srashti stated. “If I hadn’t posted and it hadn’t gone viral, maybe his killers wouldn’t have been found yet. If we had kept quiet, then this case would have closed in two to three days. We’ve seen so many such cases – killers wouldn’t have been found.”
Srashti vowed to do “whatever she can” to get justice for her brother.
“Whoever I have to fight with, wherever I have to go, I will make sure my voice reaches everyone,” she asserted, visibly distressed. “Whoever says anything otherwise, it’s wrong. I can see I’m being trolled everywhere. But what are you doing for my brother? You’re just slamming me. You should think about how a sister is raising her voice for her brother. You should support me, assist me. But you are blaming me. I don’t know what to say.” She concluded, “But whatever I have to do for my brother, wherever I have to raise my voice, I will do.”
The intense online criticism grew after Srashti, who has 481,000 Instagram followers, posted a video with her brother and Sonam’s wedding picture as a backdrop, directly addressing Sonam.
“My brother had vowed to be with Sonam Raghuvanshi for seven lives, but she couldn’t stay with him for even seven days,” she sobbed. “What did he do that you killed him? You could have eloped if you liked someone else. Why did you kill him? Why did you take away someone’s brother, someone’s son?”
Sonam, 24, and her alleged lover, Raj, were arrested on Monday along with three accomplices – Akash Rajput, Anand Kurmi, and Vishal Singh Chauhan. They are accused of murdering 29-year-old Raja.
The Honeymoon Murder Case
Raja and Sonam married on May 11. Nine days later, on May 20, they left for their honeymoon in Meghalaya with a one-way ticket. After three days of touring the Northeast, the couple reportedly went “missing.” When their family couldn’t reach them, they contacted the police.
What started as a missing persons investigation quickly became a murder probe when Raja’s body was found in a gorge on June 2, ten days after the brutal crime. A machete, believed to be the murder weapon, was also recovered. Raja’s initial autopsy report indicated he was attacked twice – once on the back and once on the front of his head.
On the night of June 7, the ‘missing’ wife, Sonam, was found unconscious at a dhaba in Ghazipur. She was taken for medical treatment, where she later surrendered to the police and was taken into custody. Meghalaya police then launched ‘Operation Honeymoon,’ forming a 20-member team that arrested the remaining four accused in overnight raids.
All five accused have since been brought to Shillong and are currently in eight-day police custody.
