Sita Navami, also known as Sita Jayanti or Janaki Jayanti, is being celebrated this year on May 5, 2025. Observed on the Navami Tithi (ninth day) of Shukla Paksha in the Hindu month of Vaishakh, the festival marks the divine appearance of Goddess Sita, consort of Lord Rama and daughter of King Janak of Mithila. Hence, she is also revered as Janaki.

Sita Navami 2025: Puja Date and Shubh Muhurat

As per the Hindu Panchang, the Navami Tithi begins at 7:35 AM on May 5 and ends at 8:38 AM on May 6. The most auspicious time for performing Sita Navami Puja falls between 11:18 AM and 1:53 PM on May 5.

Significance of Sita Navami

Devotees observe a fast on this day and offer prayers to Lord Rama and Goddess Sita with full devotion. According to scriptures, observing the Sita Navami Vrat bestows blessings equivalent to performing sixteen major donations (Mahadaan) and visiting all major pilgrimage sites. It is believed that chanting the sacred mantras dedicated to Sita and Rama brings fulfillment of desires and divine grace.

Powerful Mantras for Sita Navami

Devotees can chant the following mantras 11 times on Sita Navami:

  • ॐ सीतायै नमः (Om Sitaayai Namah)
  • ॐ श्री सीता रामाय नमः (Om Shri Sita Raamaaya Namah)
  • श्री जानकी रामाभ्यां नमः (Shri Janaki Raamaabhyaam Namah)
  • ॐ जनकनन्दिन्यै विद्महे रामवल्लभायै धीमहि। तन्न: सीता प्रचोदयात्।।
  • ॐ जनकजाये विद्महे रामप्रियाय धीमहि। तन्नो सीता प्रचोदयात्।।

Worshippers offer flowers and perform rituals to please Mata Janaki and Lord Rama, seeking peace, prosperity, and spiritual growth.
